Why Janellify for Home School?

Home school students have the opportunity to work with an experienced certified visual art teacher. Students will explore art lessons and art materials that they would experience in a public school. Also, the teacher will connect more with the students and parents because of smaller classroom size.

Who owns Janellify?

Janell Walker Smalls. Janell is a certified K-12th visual art teacher. She has taught art for over 11 years. Also, she loves inspiring and motivating each other through creating art.

Is there an age requirement for Homeschool Art Program?

Homeschool art program currently serving grades K- 5th grade (Ages 5- 11) and

6th- 8th grade (Ages 12- 14) We're not equipped for toddlers or preschoolers. Our classes have age minimums because of the materials and tools we use.

Are we allowed to bring food or snack?

Please be sure to have a snack before coming to classes. Students are not allowed to bring snacks but may bring a water bottle. We want to make sure we keep our area clean and our neat.

Is Homeschool Art Program Year-Round?

7-8 week class sessions are offered during the entire school year, from August-May! This gives parents great flexibility to work them into their child’s other activities! So stay tuned for more upcoming dates.

What art materials are being used?

Each week we will dabble with different art materials such as oil pastels, liquid watercolors, tempera and acrylic paint, crayons, air dry clay, mixed media paper and construction paper and so much more.

If child is allergic to any of these materials, please inform the art teacher to make an accommodation.

How many art teachers and students?

A child will feel encouraged and challenged as we strive to maintain a ratio of 1:10. There is currently one certified teacher in the classes.

What are your cancellation and refund policies?

We are happy to issue a full refund or class credit if a registered student drops out of a class at least 4 weeks prior to the start date of the session (this enables us to open up his/her spot to another student).If a student withdraws from a class less than 4 weeks in advance, or a class already in session, the full dollar amount of any unused paid for classes may be applied towards future class tuition or other events in the studio for any member of the family ( workshops, holiday events, birthday parties, etc.), or used to purchase gift certificates.

What if the Art Teacher is out?

Please note that in the event of a teacher emergency, the Homeschool Art Program has the right to bring a substitute in for your art class at no notice to you. We will allow one Make-up class (TBD). If you missed more than one class. It will not be make-up and no refunds.

What can parents do while their child is in art?

Parents are free to wait in the waiting room. Parents you may use this time to run errands. If you decide to wait in the waiting room, I just ask that you keep a “library” voice due to other classes.

How can I see what my child is working on?

I will post pictures with your permission for each class on the private Facebook page for the parents of my students. You will be instructed on how to join on the first day of class. Also, you are required to come to the class after art class is over.

Do you send reminders about class dates?

Yes, I will send out important reminders about class. I will be adding you to the group for your class. I will communicate information by text or email. If you do not receive it, please let me know.

Are we open on Holidays that lands on Wednesday or Thursday?

No. Homeschool Art Program will follow the Charleston County School District Schedule.
